We’ve finally finished our short film, “The Stolen,” and happy happy, joy joy, we’ve gotten our accreditation for the Cannes Short Film Corner...
So now, the big question is, how do we promote it? I’ve been working on postcards (based on Irene Langholm’s design and help from my uber talented designer friend Bonni Reid.
Back in 2010, I was fortunate to have gotten into the Cannes Marche with Telefilm for “Stained,” when, as amazing as the Festival experience was, I learned that Cannes is a total zoo. And from what I understand, the Short Film Corner is even crazier. So how do I make it better? Do I try to hire a publicist? The PR companies specializing in shorts are charging 2,500 Euros on average, and what does that really buy?
Maybe I’m not thinking about it in the right way, but for 2,500 Euros, I could shoot and finish a new short film, or a trailer to promote my next feature film “Evangeline” (which is the feature version of “Doll Parts.”) And it’s not like I have a spare 2,500 Euros to spare. I don’t know what kidneys go for nowadays on Craigslist, but I can tell you that I’m already coasting on fumes.
So, if anyone has any helpful suggestions, short of me wearing a sandwich board (sorry, I have fashion lines that cannot be crossed), please let me know.
